Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a crown and a bridge?
A crown covers one damaged tooth like a cap. A bridge replaces one or more missing teeth by using crowns on adjacent teeth to support false teeth in between.
Why do I need a crown instead of a filling?
When a tooth has too much damage (large cavity, crack, fracture, or after root canal) for a filling to hold, a crown protects and strengthens the entire tooth.
How long do crowns and bridges last?
Crowns: 10–15 years on average (up to 20–30 years with excellent care). Bridges: 10–15 years. Porcelain and zirconia crowns last longest.
Is getting a crown painful?
No the procedure is done under local anesthesia. Some mild sensitivity for a few days after is normal. The benefit of protecting your tooth far outweighs any temporary discomfort.
How many appointments are needed for a crown?
Traditional crowns: 2 visits (preparation/temporary + placement). Same-day crowns (CEREC): 1 visit (60–90 minutes).
